Shibori West Textile Designs
Elkins, West Virginia USA
Michael Davis began dyeing garments in 1969 and was introduced to the art of shibori dyeing in 1981 by Yoshiko I. Wada. Working from a small studio in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, Davis practices and perfects his arashi technique for his company, Shibori West Textile Designs. Together with textile artist Carol Freeman, Davis creates one-of-a-kind, handmade wearable art in fine silk crepe de Chine fashioned into kimono, tunics, jackets, and pieced lined scarves. The company also offers award-winning wall hangings, lamps and art quilts and their textiles have been featured in costumes for the Charleston Stage Company.
