QiXi Festival Open House + Craft Camp: August 17th, and 18th, 2013 / Jin Ze Arts Centre, Shanghai, China

This is a wonderful international opportunity for anyone to attend. If you are craving a rich cultural and technical workshop, this is for you.

“The Legend of Weaver Goddess”

“QiXi Festival is a Chinese festival that celebrates the forbidden love between the Weaver Goddess and the cowherd. This affectionate couple was separated by God of Heaven to opposite sides of the Silver River. Only once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, a flock of magpies would form a bridge to reunite the lovers for one day. Over centuries, on this specific day, young girls will recite traditional prayers for dexterity in needlework, which symbolizes the traditional  talents of the Weaver Goddess.”

-Jin Ze Arts Centre

Our affiliate Jin Ze Arts Centre is announcing another wonderful weaving workshop and weekend event. Celebrate the QiXi Festival by exploring the historic Jin Ze Town with over 1,300 years of rich history. An extension offers accommodation at the Arts Centre and participation in the Weaving Camp or Miao Doll Making. Visit the Centre’s archives, dine within the beautiful architecture, and attend lectures such as “Ten Busy Undertakings of Women” – revealing the traditional process of cloth-making, from cotton or silk fibre, yarn spinning, weaving, and dyeing, etc.

The maximum capacity is 40 participants for the Open Day and 20 for the Weaving Camp. Acceptance on a first-come first-serve basis. So please fill in the Reservation Form and email to: jinzetextiles@163.com. Deadline is August 8th, 2013

Another addition to the search to weave Flying Carpets. The group at World Shibori Network are weavers of dreams, and provide incredible workshops and educational opportunities regarding the soul, aesthetic, and practical meaning behind handworks. I love them.
