Celebrating the visual languages of PEOPLE, COMMUNITY, CULTURE, and ENVIRONMENT through the global practice of resist-dye traditions and innovations, keeping in mind authenticity, reciprocity, and networking.
We are happy to announce this coming winter’s Weaving Workshop and Winter Fes Open Day at Jin Ze Arts Centre, located outside of Shanghai.
Jin Ze Arts Centre is an affiliate of Slow Fiber Studios, and will be participating with World Shibori Network in the 9th International Shibori Symposium along with the China National Silk Museum, scheduled for November 2014.
This upcoming December, they will have a kesi (Chinese Silk Tapestry) master visiting to share techniques and give demonstrations. An intensive weaving workshop will be held to observe and understand this craft of traditional Chinese pictorial weaving. Participants will learn to warp the two-heddle pedal loom and weave their own work. Workshop leader and Jin Ze Arts Centre director Edith Cheung will show tapestry pieces from the archive to teach participants about different styles and skills. See beautiful examples in front of your eyes!
For the Winter Fes Open Day on the weekend, you will have the chance to tour the town in a boat ride, enjoy a delicious and healthy homemade cooked meal, have a chance to visit the weaving room and meet a master weaver, plus view items from the textile archive, library. Also, a special guest speaker will be present to tell you about their other collections (topic to be confirmed soon).
