Slow Fiber Studios presents: Jiro Yonezawa, visiting artist and teacher.
We are happy to announce our summer workshop series, instructed by Jiro Yonezawa, renowned bamboo sculptural artisan. He completed his training at Oita Prefectural Beppu Industrial Art Research Institute in Japan and apprenticed with Ono Makakatsu. He has had numerous solo exhibitions and has shown in group exhibitions such as SOFA New York and SOFA Chicago. His work has been shown in the United States, Japan, and Europe. He has received several awards both in the United States and Japan. His work has been selected twice for the prestigious Japan Nitten National Fine Arts Exhibit. His work is in many public and private collections such as the Microsoft Corporation in Seattle, the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Portland Art Museum in Oregon. Jiro lived from 1998-2008 in the United States and now is living and working at his new studio in his hometown in southern Japan.
Mr. Yonezawa will be leading 4 different workshops, between a lecture, exhibition opening, and closing reception in Berkeley, CA.
