Celebrating the visual languages of PEOPLE, COMMUNITY, CULTURE, and ENVIRONMENT through the global practice of resist-dye traditions and innovations, keeping in mind authenticity, reciprocity, and networking.
Fiber Futures, an exhibition that showcases the dynamic field of Japanese fiber art is currently being featured at the Maison de la Culture du Japon in Paris. This incredible collection includes the works of 30 established and emerging artists and is promoted by Professor Hiroki Watanabe, President, the International Textile Network Japan and ISS 2014 Presenter.
Here’s an excerpt from the Fiber Futures book that gives an overview –
The works on display range from ethereal silk and hemp to paper pulp and synthetic fiber using methods that are sometimes deeply traditional, but sometimes employ the latest weaving and dyeing technology along with an environmentally conscious “green” ethos. Moving far beyond traditional utility, Japan’s textile pioneers fuse past and present to create innovative, beautiful and sometimes challenging works of art.
