The Fashion Gallery, and the Institute of Textiles & Clothing, at the The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in partnership with 10iss are glad to announce that New Beat, an International Student Competition in Wearable Art is now open!
Traditional technique combined with modern technology has recently widely gained appeal with contemporary artists and designers. New Beat is a design competition hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for the 10th International Shibori Symposium(10iss) to be exhibited in Hong Kong and Oaxaca. This competition will feature innovative wearable art, using a wide range of techniques and materials, old and new ! The organizing committee for New Beat 2016 comprises of Kinor Jiang, Guoxiang Yuan, Qingxin Peng and Yuki Cheng.
International design students who are inspired by material manipulation and new technique application with a sensitivity to cultural diversity are encouraged to apply for New Beat 2016.
Round 1 Submission:
The competition is opened to enrolled university students worldwide. Each contestant can only register once and submit one individual work. Team Participation is not accepted.

Exhibitions and final judging will be conducted according to the details furnished in the rules document.

Work delivery: August 15, 2016 | Address will be announced by e-mail in due course. Awards presentation ceremony: November 20, 2016 in the 10ISS, Mexico (During the Public Exhibition opening | The artwork will be returned to the finalists after exhibitions concluded.
How to Apply
Send a zip format folder with application form, photos of artwork and a copy of student ID card to the International Student Competition via email at email@example.com on or before June 25, 2016. Read the ‘Guidelines’ below before you apply.

At New Beat 2014, a part of 9iss in China, 8 awarded artworks were selected from 35 final artworks. The awarded artworks were chosen by the organising committee, several members including Kinor JIANG, Xuelin LIAO, and WSN President, Yoshiko Iwamoto WADA.
The 2014 award ceremony was held on October 31, 2014, and the artworks were exhibited in The Fashion Gallery, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 27 August–25 September 2014, in China National Silk Museum from 30 October to 2 November 2014, and finally in Shunde from 11 to 15 December 2014.
