Due to numerous requests received, we are extending the deadlines for entries at the 10th International Shibori Symposium in Oxaca, Mexico.
The following categories are receiving submissions till May 30th –
A collection of exemplary contemporary artworks which demonstrate compression resist techniques, such as shibori and ikat . The aim of this exhibition is to display contemporary works of shibori and ikat by international artists, who both play and rethink tradition and medium.
A collection of exemplary wearable artworks which demonstrate innovation and interpretation of compression resist techniques. For example, shibori and ikat used to redefine ideas of body adornment, fashion and costume. The aim of this exhibition is to display wearable works by international and Mexican artists, who challenge traditional mediums, designs and applications.
Paper Presentations : Paper must pertain to one of the following themes:

Traditional technique combined with modern technology has widely gained appeal with contemporary artists and designers. The New Beat is a design competition hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for the 10th International Shibori Symposium. This competition will feature innovative wearable art, using a wide range of techniques and materials, old and new International design students who are inspired by material manipulation and new technique application with sensitivity to cultural diversity are encouraged to apply.
In addition to 10iss, New Beat artworks will be exhibited at The Fashion Gallery, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong from September 1st – 30th, 2016.
