Bamboo Splitting & Higo Making with Jiro Yonezawa

Watch as our July 2016 artist-in-residence Jiro Yonezawa takes us through a step-by-step process of preparing strips of bamboo for weaving. The strips, known as higo, are the product of a painstaking process involving the curing and heating of the bamboo before separating the outer and inner layers. This is an in-depth look into the techniques of bamboo craft from a master sculptural artisan.
