10iss is happy to spotlight traditional Oaxacan studios that give you a chance to delve into craft of paper making and binding.
This artisanal handmade paper and paper jewelry studio was founded by Mexican artist Francisco Toledo in 1998 as a cooperative working with local community and utilising bark, plants, flowers, cotton, hemp, silk, linen and pieces of shiny mica – renewable resources and local materials free of chemicals. The workshop is working to become a self-sustaining business, where the surplus money is invested in reforestation , nurseries and educational and cultural programs for the community. In addition, there will be an exhibition at the adjoining gallery, featuring artist Kiff Slemmons, titled Kiff Slemmons and Arte Papel Vista Hermosa – Joyeria y Papel: Una Colaboración, which will be on view during the symposium November 11-December 11, 2016. Kiff Slemmons will also be presenting at the symposium in person.
