Join us for a curated series of architectural explorations across Basel; this excursion is called, “At the Fringe: Klybeck, Kleinhüningen, Weil-am-Rhein, and Rhine Harbor.” These tours peel back the layers of the city’s industrial and modernist heritage to reveal how contemporary architects are repurposing the past to create sustainable, cooperative spaces for the future.

We explore Aktienmühle, the former flour mill repurposed for creative workshops and other uses by Metron; St Christophorus Church Center, the new high-rise brick residential building incorporating a chapel by Mathias Lorenz; and the iconic Photographic Studio Frei (HdM 1981) restored and converted into an art gallery by studio ne. We’ll enjoy a coffee break at the Rhine harbor.

YOUR GUIDE

Linda Cassens Stoian (Basel/CH) MA, critical spatial artist, researcher, and docent investigating how the human environment is construed–and de-construed through corporeal movement and lingering/residing/sojourning or “Being In.” Project director and core research in two Swiss research projects concerning the body and space. Since 2006, concept, organization, and guiding of architecture and interior architecture tours in collaboration with the Swiss Architecture Museum S AM, Basel; author, translator of various articles, books, films.
