Join us in our SlowFiber Studio garden to celebrate the rich tradition of textile art in the San Francisco Bay area!
World Shibori Network Foundation (WSNF) invites our community of fiber artists and friends to the SlowFiber Studio in Berkeley for an afternoon dedicated to honoring textile arts and the achievements of five incredible artists.
Whether you are a long-time maker, a donor, or simply an enthusiast of handmade textiles, we would love for you to join our community gathering in Berkeley.

Costumes for Theater, Cinema, and Opera
A Conversation with San Francisco Bay Area Textile Celebrities Lydia Tanji, Chere Mah, Suzanne Stassevitch, Gyongy Laky, and Yoshiko I. Wada.

Four local legends gather for a conversation: Lydia Tanji, Joy Luck Club’s costume designer, speaks to how costumes create the illusion of place, time, and social context. Costumes generate excitement around fashion, too! An exhibition of Chere Mah’s storied family collection of Chinese dresses—qipao (Mandarin) or cheongsam (Cantonese) and appearing in Joy Luck Club—opens at LACMA in June. Suzanne Stassevitch, in a recorded excerpt, brings her perspective of 20+ years as former head of wardrobe for the SF Opera. Yoshiko I. Wada was a consultant for Colleen Atwood, costume designer for Memoirs of a Geisha. Atwood won the Academy Award for this work. Gyongy Laky brought us all together through her Fiberworks Center for the Textile Arts in Berkeley, which she founded in 1971.
Together, they trace the journey of a garment from cinematic prop to preserved historical treasure.

We invite guests to contribute to our Attic Vintage Market! Do you have precious items or books to offer for sale? Consider joining our market as a vendor. Click on the registration button above to let us know you are attending AND to secure a vendor table. Vendors: Table space is free, but please consider a suggested donation of 10-20% of proceeds to WSNF’s fundraising (100% tax-deductible).
For those with one or two treasures to share, drop them off at our donated goods table during the event. All proceeds from the sale of donated goods will go towards fundraising for WSNF!

Karen Urbanek of Flying Noir Art & Chocolate, named 1 of top 10 chocolatiers in America by Dessert Professional will offer samples and sell her artful chocolate truffles! Tim Hansen, active in the Berkeley community and CoFounder of CoRo Coffee, a collaborative coffee roasting facility in Berkeley, will serve coffee roasted locally at CoRo.
