Yoshiko I. Wada is the Guest Curator for International Quilt Museum’s (IQM) current exhibition, Boro: The Hidden and the Visible in Japanese Mended Textiles.

Today’s program takes place live at the IQM and is a collaborative effort between IQM and WSNF. Sandra Dudley, Professor of Museum Anthropology and Head of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester will be speaking. Following her lecture will be a Gallery Walk and Talk through the IQM’s Boro Exhibition led by IQM’s Curator of International Collections Marin Hanson, PhD; Yoshiko Wada; and Sandra Dudley.

Our Presenters

Sandra Dudley is Professor of Museum Anthropology at the University of Leicester, UK. She previously worked for over ten years at the Pitt Rivers Museum, and completed her doctorate in Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford. Her research interests include the displacements of, and sensory and emotional engagements with, materials and things (particularly but not only, textiles). She has worked extensively in Myanmar, Thailand, India, and the UK. Her most recent book is Displaced Things in Museums and Beyond: Loss, Liminality and Hopeful Encounters (2021). Sandra was the doctoral research supervisor for both Yoshiko Wada and Marin Hanson. She will present a 30-minute talk, titled Boro: The Hidden and the Visible in the Museum.
