Yoshiko I. Wada is the Guest Curator for the International Quilt Museum’s (IQM) current exhibition, Boro: The Hidden and the Visible in Japanese Mended Textiles. She has been pleased by the IQM team’s approach and support.
In this conversation, we bring together the guest curator Yoshiko and Jamie Swartz, the IQM’s Collections Manager, for a rare glimpse at how the Boro collection has been managed for this exhibition. One topic of conversation will be the question of Ura / Omote (inside / outside) and which side is considered, “the right side.”
This conversation also touches upon the indigo dye artists who volunteered their skills to dye display sleeves for the Boro objects.
