This tour provides the opportunity for hands-on learning with Shibori and Sukumo indigo dyeing masters. Learn each master’s particular Shibori style and approach. Immerse in each of their creative environments. We travel to mountain villages for washi paper-making as well as for studio visits with a contemporary ikat weaver and an indigo dyer.
We enjoy three days to explore three art islands in the Seto Inland Sea during the 2025 Setouchi Triennale with opportunities to visit internationally acclaimed museums and to view more than a dozen contemporary art and architectural installations, all built into rural landscapes on the islands.
Our encounters with traditional and contemporary Japan will be unforgettable. Travelers often form life-long friendships.
