Meet weaver artistst, Virginia Stigaite from Vilinus, Lithuania at our 2nd Annual Garden Event. She will make a presentation of her woven works.
Virginija Stigaite
Stigaite says, “The loom is like a computer to me. I understand the logic of it.” Trained in fashion engineering, Stigaite has been engineering her wearable wovens for the last 10 years using only naturals fibers. She does everything from start to finish: design, make the fabric, and create the final pieces. Her color palette draws inspiration from nature. The prestigious NHK of Japan filmed her in February of this year. Her weaving is also highly regarded and sought after in Iceland. She calls her work practice a cosmos.

Excerpt from her interview with Homo Faber:
Although Virginija Stigaite has a family tradition in textiles, initially she explored many techniques and materials before finding her home at the loom. She is hugely passionate about the creative process, from the choice of fibre through to the finishing of each piece. She is part engineer, part chemist and part craftsperson. Virginija is driven to find new ways of combining fibres, recently discovering a new technique for softening linen fibres. The garments she creates incorporate a rustic colour pallette which draws inspiration from nature. Interaction with wilderness is core to her work, creating sustainable production and clothing that has a positive interaction between people and the world.
