Rosella Cilano, Director
Natural Dye Association M.E. Salice is a documentation, research and education center established in 1986 as a non-profit, membership based organization. Founded with the purpose of remembering and continuing the work of Master Dyer Maria Elda Salice, a passionate researcher and publicist, our organization’s main objective is to document natural dyes and its possible applications to textiles and fine arts at a high level of excellence. The Association’s headquarters are located in Milano; our premises offer books, documents and experimental samples, and is now an important point of reference for all people interested in natural dyes.
A.T.N. collaborates with craftspeople, landscape designers, scholars, researchers, public boards, schools, universities, museums, botanical gardens, and other associations both in Italy and abroad. Periodically, our Studio hosts visiting teachers from various countries as a way to provide opportunities for informational exchange across the larger global field of natural dye studies. We also organize seminars, exhibitions, and other public events on natural dyes to help promote and publicize ‘color culture.’ The Association’s research efforts and findings on dye plants and vegetal dye peculiarities are self-published in the series, “Quaderni di Tintura Naturale”.
The Association also focuses on education and current environmental concerns. Our experts support projects concerning natural color application as a renewable and eco-friendly resource, as well as projects focused on developing regional and youth employment.
