Karina van Vught

Karina is an artist specializing in painting on silk, with expanded interests in shibori and batik.  In 1986, she started her own studio & shop, ZIJDELINGS. Over the last ten years, Karina shifted her focus from producing her own art to organizing workshops and selling materials which can be ordered by email. Through Zijdelings, she continues to give courses, sells silks and silk paints, and offers impressive programs featuring invited textile artists from all over the world.  At present, courses emphasize general textile & surface design on both natural and synthetic fabrics. Previous guest instructors include: Yoshiko Wada, Ana Lisa Hedstrom, Joan Morris, Catharine Ellis, Jean Cacicedo, Jay Rich, Kate Wells and Patricia Black.

In addition to ZIJDELINGS, Karina also organises in-house workshops for the AUDAX Textile Museum, offering advanced techniques such as digital printing, laser cutting/etching, weaving, knitting and embroidery which are held on the computerized equipment at the Textile Lab of the Museum.

A long-time active member and indispensable contributor to the World Shibori Network community, Karina has attended four International Shibori Symposia”ISS” (Chile, Harrogate, Japan, France). Her involvement in the greater textile communities stretches even further: she is a member of the Surface Design Association, attended five SDA conferences, and has acted as their European Representative since 2007.  Karina also belongs to the ETN (European Textile Network) for more than 10 years.
